Become a Mentor!

Hello!

Thank you for your interest in the Generation Tech Mentoring Program at Chicago Tech Academy High School. The Pilot Program of 25 mentor-mentee pairs has been a great learning experience and a significant benefit to our students. We are hoping that the remainder of our junior class will be paired with a mentor by the end of November!

Here are the general parameters of the mentoring relationship:

· Mentors and students will fill out similar surveys to determine good matching candidates based on career interest/experience and hobbies.

· We expect that you contact your student a minimum of twice a month by phone or email, whichever works best for you and your mentee.

· We also encourage in-person meetings with your mentee monthly - your student could visit you at your workplace, you could meet at Chicago Tech High School, or in a neutral location.

· Additionally, the Generation Tech Mentor program will be hosting multiple group events to facilitate relationship building. We will regularly recommend other events in Chicago, such as classes, conferences, etc. that you could attend with your mentee.

· We expect your methods of interaction to evolve over time and will need to take into account both of your schedules.

· The initial commitment we're looking for is a year and a half (through your mentee's graduation from high school).

· In order to be a mentor, you are required to attend one orientation session to introduce the parameters of the program, further highlight our expectations, and provide resources for your mentoring relationship.

· A background check is required for all mentors.

· The Mentor Coordinator, Amanda Prorak, will be in touch with both mentor and mentee to monitor progress and provide support.

If you are still interested in becoming a Generation Tech Mentor, please fill out the application by November 1st. It should take approximately 15 minutes to complete this form. Filling out this application does not mean you have committed to the program, it is simply the first step in the process.

The final question on the application asks which date you would like to attend orientation: October 19 from 5:00-6:30 pm OR October 22 from 9:30-11:00 am. At orientation you will receive the paperwork to begin a background check.
