Thoughts from a Successful Mentor/Mentee Pair

Junior Tyler Briscoe has been paired with a dedicated mentor, Erick Cruz of Model Metrics, as part of the Generation Tech Mentoring Program. The program started only 4 months ago, but these two have made real strides toward planning for Tyler's career. They share their approach after the jump.

Erick:
"I was able to tell immediately that Tyler is passionate about fashion. She's one of Chicago Tech Academy’s star students, and the school is doing a good job honing her technology skills, so I decided to discover fashion with her. We started by taking a sewing class together, and now we’re scheduled to attend an Akira fashion show. Next, I’d like to bridge fashion and technology, maybe by showing Tyler how she can start her own fashion blog."

Tyler:
At first, I wasn’t sure if we would talk over the summer, because we didn’t really know each other. Then we started texting. He thinks of things I can do now, before I graduate, to help me in my career. He really thinks my future is important, and he’s showing me by taking me to the sewing class and fashion show. In the future, I’d like to communicate and get to know each other more.
